About

Hi, thanks for visiting me here at Looks Like Books.

If you’re not sure what to read next, you’re in the right place!  I started this book blog to help others develop the same love of reading that I have.  So stick around and I’ll recommend great books and answer all of your most bookish questions.

Hi, I’m Mary, your host, and Chief Troublemaker here at Looks Like Books. Yep, there’s a real person behind this book blog, and it’s me! I actually hang out here quite a bit, I read all the comments left on my posts, and I answer them personally.

Who’s Mary?

In addition to being the Chief Troublemaker here around Looks Like Books,  I’m the Chief Bottle Washer and director of Dream Fulfillment at a full-service corporate and leisure travel agency that I started in 1984. And yes, being self-employed since 1984 means I’m smack dab in the baby boomer category. So, go boomers!

My home is in Wisconsin, and I’m a part-time ex-pat, spending the cold Wisconsin winters in sunny Spain and other spots around Europe.

Funny Facts About Me

  • Looks Like Books is not the only blog I run, and I would usually rather shop for new blog themes than clothes.
  • I only realized a few years ago that I was geeky.  In fact, I describe myself as an entrepreneurial baby boomer and geeky travel agent who loves to blog and was determined to find a way to build an online business that I could work from anywhere because I cannot stop traveling!
  • Reading is a favorite hobby of mine, and I admit that I love romance novels.  The truth is, a lot of people absolutely will not admit that!  Not sure why! How else do you think the romance fiction industry has gotten to be worth over $1 billion dollars a year?
  • I’ve loved cooked spinach (even canned) since I was a little kid.

Why A Book Blog?

I have a secret to share. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been completely lost somewhere between the covers of a book. And I hope that you, also, have that same neverending love of books.

Books have always held a special place in my life and have served as a constant source of comfort, inspiration, and personal growth.

I have a variety of different hobbies and interests, plus several businesses to keep me occupied.

But it’s books – all things related to books and reading, that have been my favorite pastime since I was a child and learned to read.

Seriously, I think the Amazon Kindle is the greatest invention ever! How else can you bring your entire library with you when you travel?

Book. Never leave home without it!

My goal here at Looks Like Books is to inspire you to have the same life-long love of books that I’ve had. Whether you read books to become inspired, to learn something, or to simply find comfort in escaping inside the pages of a great book, just read.

Read today, read tomorrow, and keep reading and absorbing every single day.

The more that you read the more things you will know. The more that you learn the more places you’ll go. ~Dr. Seuss

And listen to what Dr. Seuss tells us! Let books inspire you to visit other places and other times. To be transported to those places and times that you’re imagining with every word that you read. Even if you can only visit between the pages of your book!

But, you never know when a book will inspire a real visit to somewhere far away. And that’s the true power of reading. It causes you to dream. And imagine. And what you think about, dream about, and imagine, can become reality when you least expect it to.

My mission is to ignite the same passion for reading in others that I have and to encourage them to explore new worlds within the pages of a book.

So, happy reading, dreaming, and imagining!

What I’m Reading!

I’ve been getting lots of questions about this, so I recently decided to start documenting what I’m reading for all of you. And FYI, nothing fancy there. Just a post that I try and update often to show you what I’m reading and perhaps to share a few rambles about it.
