About Looks Like Books

Mary Emmer is the founder and primary author behind Looks Like Books. She started the site to help readers discover new books, explore different genres, and share her love of reading.

If you’re not sure what to read next, you’re in the right place! I created this site to help readers discover their next favorite book through curated book lists, author bibliographies, and honest reviews. Whether you’re looking for a brand-new release, a timeless classic, or a full series to binge-read, you’ll find it here.

Who Am I?

Hi, I’m Mary Emmer – the reader, writer, and dreamer behind Looks Like Books. Thanks for visiting me here at Looks Like Books.

Mary Emmer

I’ve been a lifelong reader (and proud Kindle addict), with a special love for romance, mystery, and historical fiction. Outside of books, I’ve spent over 40 years as a self-employed entrepreneur in the travel industry – a career that taught me the value of curiosity, exploration, and stories from around the world.

Today, I split my time between my home in Wisconsin and sunnier winters in Spain and other spots in Europe, where books are always my constant travel companions.

Why I Started A Book Blog

Books have been my lifelong passion – a source of comfort, inspiration, and growth. Even though I run businesses and have plenty of hobbies, reading has always been at the center of my life.

Looks Like Books is my way of sharing that love – helping readers find joy, escape, and inspiration through stories.

Fun Facts About Me

  • I run more than one blog (and yes, I’d rather shop for new themes than clothes).
  • I’m actually a geeky travel agent and entrepreneurial baby boomer who can’t stop traveling.
  • My guilty pleasure? Romance novels – no shame, it’s a billion-dollar industry for a reason!
  • Odd fact: I’ve loved cooked spinach (even canned) since I was a kid.

My Mission

To inspire lifelong reading by helping you discover books worth falling in love with – and maybe even spark a few travel dreams along the way.

What I’m Reading Now

Since I’m always reading something new, here’s a quick peek at the books currently keeping me company – I’ll update this list often so you can follow along or find your next great read.

Under the Stars by Beatriz Williams – A sweeping historical novel blending love, secrets, and survival during a turbulent chapter of American history

The Woman in Suite 11 by Ruth Ware – A twisty locked-room style thriller where one wrong keycard leads to chilling consequences.

For Richer For Poorer by Danielle Steel – A heartfelt family drama exploring ambition, sacrifice, and the bonds that money can’t buy.
