Frequently Asked Questions

Should I read books in publication order or chronological order?

In most cases, publication order is the best place to start. It lets you experience the books as the author originally released them and usually preserves character introductions, relationships, and story developments as intended. When chronological order makes more sense – or a series has a more complicated reading order – we’ll point that out in the individual guide.

Do I need to read novellas and companion books?

Not always. Some novellas and companion stories add background, revisit favorite characters, or fill gaps between novels without being essential to the main story. Our Books in Order guides include these titles when relevant and explain where they fit so you can decide whether to include them in your reading.

What if an author writes several different series?

Our books in order guides organize books by series as well as standalone titles, making it easier to see which books belong together and where each series begins. When series are connected, overlap, or have a recommended reading order, we’ll include that information too.

Are the Books in Order guides updated when authors publish new books?

Yes. We update our Books in Order guides as new titles are announced and released so the lists remain useful for readers. Many of our books in order guides also include a printable list that makes it easy to keep track of the books you’ve read and the ones still on your list.
