Publisher’s Synopsis of The Senator’s Wife by Liv Constantine
In this gripping story set in a world where no one is irreplaceable, tragedy struck two years ago, taking the lives of their partners and bringing D.C. philanthropist Sloane Chase and Senator Whit Montgomery together. Now, as they embark on a new chapter, united in marriage, Sloane re-enters the elite circles of White House galas and political chatter, facing her own health challenges with an impending hip replacement due to long-standing lupus.
Athena Karras, a seemingly ideal home health aide is hired to assist Sloane post-surgery. Athena proves to be a boon, not just in caregiving but also in helping manage Sloane’s charitable endeavors. However, Sloane’s health mysteriously declines, a situation Athena attributes to Sloane’s lupus. Doubts and fears start to cloud Sloane’s mind as she notices unsettling dynamics unfolding around her. She can’t shake off the feeling of unease, especially regarding Athena’s inquisitive nature about her foundation and past, and the ambiguous interactions between Athena and Whit.
My Review of The Senator’s Wife by Liv Constantine
I’m a huge fan of fast-paced twisty thrillers, and this book did not disappoint.
Overall, I thought this was a good, suspenseful book and I did not see what was coming at the end!
For the most part, I liked the main female characters right from the start. These characters include Sloane Chase (later Montgomery), her daughter Emmy, her former mother-in-law Rosemary, and her former sister-in-law Camille. I think of these family members as Sloane’s people – her “posse” if you will. I thought they seemed like authentic people, and like ladies I would enjoy knowing in real life.
Enter the other main character, Athena. There was a lot I didn’t care for about her, I must admit. She seemed like a golddigger from the outset. And she didn’t seem like a very genuine character to me and nothing about her made me feel like I would want to know her.
Then, there’s the hubby Whit. I can’t say a lot about him other than I thought he seemed a bit dodgy right from the get-go. The question is – does he stay dodgy throughout the whole book? LOL, I cannot divulge that. No spoilers here 🙂
Overall, I thought this was a very fast-paced book and it mostly held my interest. I did think things slowed down a bit in the middle. Part of that problem for me is that I think some of the characters (or their actions perhaps) were a little stereotyped. And I felt that some of the dialogue was downright cheesy.
I didn’t particularly care for the setting of the book, for no other reason than I’m not a fan of the whole “Washington/DC insider” vibe.
However, I got past all that and of course, made it to the end. Where I was completely gobsmacked!
It was a total gasp-worthy surprise ending for me, and that is what makes a great thriller for me.
My Review Rating for The Senator’s Wife
I gave this book a 3.5 (Solid and Satisfying) out of 5 stars.

Conclusion
The Senator’s Wife by Liv Constantine is a high-stakes psychological thriller weaving through the intricate corridors of power and privilege. It’s a story of how having everything also means having everything to lose, filled with heart-pounding twists and a narrative that masterfully unravels the complexities of trust and deceit.
Although I didn’t love the Washington power players vibe, I did love the twists that occurred and I would recommend that you read this if you love domestic thrillers that are fast-paced with a surprise in them.
