My Take: I really enjoyed Hidden Nature. It has the mix Nora Roberts does so well – mystery, suspense, romance, family, and characters you genuinely enjoy spending time with. The villain POVs were almost a little too creepy for me, but Sloan, Nash, the dogs, and all that home renovation more than made up for it. My Verdict? Read.

Hidden Nature by Nora Roberts – What I Liked
The Setting:
Heron’s Rest, Maryland, is the kind of place you want to move to (minus the creepy bad guys, of course). Between the family cabins, fixer-upper houses, small-town shop talk, and lakeside views, it’s cozy, scenic, and full of charm. Nora Roberts paints it all so vividly that I nearly packed a suitcase.
The Characters:
Sloan Cooper is a relatable and admirable heroine, recovering from a serious injury but determined not to let it define her. I especially loved the family dynamic in this one: Sloan’s parents and sister are warm and supportive, and the sibling connection between the two romantic leads adds depth. And yes, I appreciated that we get not just one, but two romances – Sloan and Nash’s slow-burn chemistry, and a more instant love match between their respective siblings.
The Plot & Storylines:
The mystery at the heart of Hidden Nature kept me turning pages. It’s a quieter suspense at first, slowly building as Sloan connects missing person cases across several states. The final act is tense and satisfying. I also enjoyed the home renovation aspect woven throughout the book. There’s something enjoyable about watching characters excel – whether it’s Sloan recovering with determination or Nash crafting the perfect renovation. (Let’s just say if Nash wants to build me an ensuite like that, I’m available.)
Hidden Nature – What I Didn’t Like
There’s a “bad guy POV” woven through the book, and while it adds tension, I found it extremely unsettling. The villains are twisted – and not in a fun, fictional way. These parts gave me the ick, and I wouldn’t recommend reading them right before bed (or if your house has a dark, creaky basement). It’s not a deal-breaker, but something to be aware of depending on your creep-tolerance level.
