The Choice (The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 3) is the very thrilling conclusion to this amazing trilogy by Nora Roberts.
If you’ve already read The Awakening, and The Becoming, then you’re probably as eager to get your hands on this third and final book in the Dragon Heart Legacy series.
Honestly, even after reading all three books in this series, I’m still somewhat surprised that I read them because I was positive at the outset that these books would be too “fantasy-ish” for me. However, I’m sorry to have to admit that I misjudged these books before I started them.
This post will give you a short synopsis of The Choice, along with my honest thoughts about this latest book by Nora Roberts.

The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 3
The Choice is the third and final book in The Dragon Heart Legacy by Nora Roberts.
The first book is The Awakening, and the second is The Becoming.
I really had some mixed feelings about this series before I began reading it. I thought it definitely wasn’t going to be for me. However, it turned out to be a bit different than what I expected.
And now, I’ve learned not to underestimate Nora Roberts!
Publisher’s Synopsis Of The Choice
Talamh is a land of green hills, high mountains, deep forests, and seas, where magicks thrive. But portals allow for passage in and out—and ultimately, each must choose their place, and choose between good and evil, war and peace, life and death…
Breen Siobhan Kelly grew up in the world of Man and was once unaware of her true nature. Now she is in Talamh, trying to heal after a terrible battle and heartbreaking losses. Her grandfather, the dark god Odran, has been defeated in his attempt to rule over Talamh, and over Breen—for now.
With the enemy cast out and the portal sealed, this is a time to rest and to prepare. Breen spreads her wings and realizes a power she’s never experienced before. It’s also a time for celebrations—of her first Christmas in both Talamh and Ireland, of solstice and weddings and births—and daring to find joy again in the wake of sorrow. She rededicates herself to writing her stories, and when his duties as taoiseach permit, she is together with Keegan, who has trained her as a warrior and whom she has grown to love.
It’s Keegan who’s at her side when the enemy’s witches, traitorous and power-mad, appear to her in her sleep, practicing black magick, sacrificing the innocent, and plotting a brutal destruction for Breen. And soon, united with him and with all of Talamh, she will seek out those in desperate need of rescue, and confront the darkness with every weapon she has: her sword, her magicks—and her courage…
The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 3 – What I Liked
I was happy to have a return of many favorite characters from the first two books in this series. I instantly liked most of the main characters as soon as I began the first book in the series. Especially Breen, Marco, Keegan, Nan, and Sally! So it was great to have some more time with them. If they hadn’t made an appearance here, something would most definitely have been missing.
The setting is the same as it was in the first two books. And since I loved the setting there, I love it in this book as well. Ireland! Even though much of the book is set in a fictional world that you walk to from Ireland, it’s still Ireland that got me hooked on this series in the first place.
I can definitely picture Breen’s Irish cottage and can imagine myself in a similar cottage – for a few days, a few weeks, a few months, or forever.
The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 3 – What I Didn’t Like
In truth, there really wasn’t anything that I didn’t like about this book.
If I had to say anything, I guess I would say it was the anticipation of the battle that I knew would be coming, given that it was the last book in the series. And, the battle parts were not my favorite parts of the book, but they were certainly an integral part of the story.
The only other thing I can say is that I was left feeling like I wanted more of certain things. More of the relationship between Breen and Keegan, more of the relationship between Marco and Brian, more of anything about Sally, and more in general about all of them really. This is, I suppose, not a “dislike” at all but simply my way of saying that I loved not only The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 3 but the entire series and that I would love it if it continued to Book 4.
But, that’s not the way Nora Roberts operates, to the best of my knowledge! When she says it’s a three-book series, it’s a three-book series!
The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 3 – Read, ReRead or Reconsider?
And now, for my 3 Rs of book reviews.
Should you Read, Reread, or Reconsider The Choice, The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 3?
Read!
I completely enjoyed this book, as well as the first two books in the series, despite the fact that I was a bit skeptical before starting the series because I didn’t think I would like them.
How Many Books Will Be In The Dragon Heart Legacy Series?
There will be three books in the Dragon Heart Legacy series. The book that I’ve reviewed here, The Choice, is The Dragon Heart Legacy series book 3 and it is the final book in this series.
The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 3 – Conclusion
If you’re looking for some way to just simply leave this world behind for a while, then Nora Roberts is happy to oblige you with a trip through The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 3, along with the entire Dragon Heart Legacy trilogy.

I want there to be a 4th book in the dragon heart series.. Marco and his story. Does Brian get another dragon.. do they pick the dragon form all the ones that now have no riders.. please give us their story
I know! I felt a bit bereft at the end of the 3rd book, knowing I had to let go of all of these characters, and dragons! I would also love to have Marco’s story.
Oh, I’m right there with you! I found it difficult to let these characters go. I think Nora has said there will only be 3 books. But from the moment I met Marco in the book, I thought it would be great for him to have his own story.
Feel the same way!!! Want a 4th book. The 3rd is great and I found it very satisfying. However, certain things were left undeveloped after the battle. We want more on Keegan and Bree, Marco and Brian, Sally and Derrick when they are told and shown Tamlah, Morena and Harken, the Dragons, Finian and his powers. Marg without Sedric – that was a heartbreaker. I don’t suppose there is any way of resuscitating him? Hmmm?
Oh, I sure wish Nora could read these comments so she knows we are all desperate for MORE from these characters!
